GATC/life
The Erasmus MC (the Rotterdam University
Hospital) approached V2_lab
about the realization of an artwork for the opening of their I-Space. The I-Space is an
immersive virtual reality environment like CAVE and belongs to the bio-informatics department.
It will serve as a facility with three-dimensional interactive projections for genomics and
proteomics data and clinical imaging techniques.
V2_lab commissioned Sonia Cillari and Edwin van der Heide to create a proposal for the content
of the artwork. GATC / life explores our perception in a condition of extended body dimensions
and lack of control. GATC / life is an immersive experience inside unities of life. The liquid
multi-colored breathing membrane of the inside contains flocks of cells, particles and molecules
having disordered human-like noisy behaviors. Our presence and actions can influence their
configurations and growth.
