#11, Marey <-> Moiré

#11 Marey <-> Moiré is an analog 35mm cinemascope film in which all images are generated by intermittently recording the rotation and movement of a physical line. It is a film about the discontinuity that lies at the heart of the film medium.

Edwin van der Heide's sound composition was created by synchronizing the parameters of the custom developed sound synthesis algorithms to the timecode of the film. Part of the parameters are translations of the parameters used for the image generation while others are translations and interpretations of the film images themselves.

#11, Marey <-> Moiré premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2000. It won the Gand prix for non-narrative animation at the Holland Animation festival in Utrecht in 2000.
